    Topic 1: Development of Thermomechanical Processing of Steels 

    Topic 2: Morphology and substructure of lath martensite in ferrous alloys

    Abstract (Topic 1):

    Thermomechanical processing (TMP) is very effective to improve the combination of strength and toughness (and/or ductility) of steels.

    After the ausforming appeared as the first TMP of steel in the first half of 1960s, various TMPs have been developed during the last 50 years. The application of TMPs was mainly to the martensitic steels in the 1960s such as ausforming and TRIP, and moved to the ferrite (+ pearlite) structure by the development of controlled rolling and accelerated cooling (TMCP) of HSLA steels. And recently, the interest is again returning to martensite (and also bainite) because of the demand for higher strength.

    In this lecture, the history and development of TMPs of steel will be briefly reviewed. Furthermore, recent trend and future prospects are also described.
